The seasons seem to be coming earlier and earlier every year.  Somehow we woke  up on September 1st and everyone was talking about Pumpkin Spice Lattes and Apple Cider Donuts.  Don’t get me wrong, a girl loves pumpkin flavored everything more than you could ever imagine, but I just wasn’t prepared for it to happen so soon!  If being a Planner has taught me anything, it’s to adapt quickly and embrace the changes that come… So, since we are chatting Fall already, and I’m feeling fully inspired by our tablescape shoot last week, I’m jumping right into the holidays and sharing my tips on creating the perfect holiday place settings.  

 

Bring in Fresh Florals 

Nothing beats the real thing!  Trust me, I’ve used a fake leaf or two in my day, but let me tell you just how much a fresh floral centerpiece can set the scene for an awesome tablescape!  We recommend taking to Pinterest to get some inspiration there and then placing an order with your favorite local florist to spice up your tables and serving areas.  Don’t forget to do this well in advance so that this process is as stress free as possible and you are able to select exactly what you want rather than what’s in the shop.  

Don’t want to splurge on fancy centerpieces, no problem! Purchase bud vases and candles from your local craft store and grab a few bouquets from your local farmers market and create a custom seasonal table runner that will wow your guests.  

 

Focus on the Details

One of my favorite things about the new microweddings is that a smaller guest count allows couples to focus more on individual guest experience.  That is also the #1 reason that throwing dinner parties is my jam! Planning an event for 10-20 people allows you to pay more attention to the details and make every single aspect of your tablescape as pretty as can be.  Cute napkin folds, check… Calligraphed place cards and food signage, check… a nice sprig of rosemary at  each setting… why not?  

 

Leave It to the Professionals 

If you want to get really fancy, there’s always an opportunity to call in the professionals.  There are plenty of event professionals (including yours truly) who offer holiday decor services.  Even if you opt to DIY as far as tablescapes and decor, it may not be a bad idea to outsource things like floral and even consider renting your flatware, glassware, and china to give your holiday table a fresh look without having to commit to buying and storing these things all year long.  The holidays are stressful enough… treat yo’self!
