Tis the season…for wedding planning. The holidays are a fun but hectic time for everyone, and deciding to plan a wedding during this time can be a bit daunting, but definitely not impossible.  Aside from the frantic family plans, the serious shopping trips and the perpetual party invites, your wedding guests may be vacationing and looking to take some time away.  Winter weddings are on the rise and we can totally understand the desire for a snow-filled landscape and a festive atmosphere for your special day.  But planning a wedding on or near a major holiday can pose a unique set of challenges. Read on for some tips on how to plan the winter wedding of your dreams amidst all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

Give Your Guests Enough Time

Giving your guests ample time when sending out save the dates is a no brainer.  December is historically the busiest month of the year and while your guests wouldn’t dare to miss your special day, allowing them to block out the time on their calendar makes it much easier once the rest of the invites start to pour in. That being said, go into your wedding planning journey with an open mind when it comes to your guest list and don’t be surprised if you have more declines than you would at other times of the year.  Bright side…the people closest to you wouldn’t miss your special day, and an intimate wedding reception is actually super chic and very special.

Potential Price Increases

In the midst of all the holiday craziness, we often find that the prices of venues, vendor services, travel and accommodations can increase.  Your key vendors; photographers, caterers and venues will most likely have an increased rate or an additional holiday fee added to their contracts. Typically, you are vying with other couples for dates, but throw in the holiday and you are now also competing with corporate parties, holiday soirees and New Year celebrations.  As always, supply and demand will play a huge part in the price of your wedding venues and vendors. So the best kept advice…go into your journey with a bigger budget or a tighter hold on your purse strings when it comes to the little things!

Holiday Decor

If your wedding venue is also hosting holiday parties galore, chances are the “halls will be decked” and your decor may seem somewhat out of place.  If you are planning a wedding around the holiday season, but not looking to fully embrace the holly jolly decor, we think taking an elevated spin can help solve this issue.  For example, white and gold can add elegance, twinkle lights can add romance and candles and blankets can add warmth and coziness.  Using the natural beauty of the winter for your photos and adding some snow and pinecones to your tablescape decor can also add a stunning touch.  Our best advice is to stay in season with your decor but push the limit! A wedding should be about capturing the couple’s personality with the theme, rather than just focusing on the holiday. 

Play on the Holiday: Offer Something Festive

Take advantage of the spirit of the season. During the holidays, it is not necessary to go all out with the holiday decor, but a few little touches can make a big difference for your guests that are  holiday-lovers.  Whether you incorporate some signature holiday cocktails, festive favors or some magical menu items, embracing some holiday love can go a long way. Just make sure your guests feel like they are celebrating your love for each other and not attending a fancy festive soiree.
