In this day and age, we need things right away… this taps into the pleasure principle…the idea that we as a humanity need all things immediately and cannot clearly decipher between fantasy and reality. While this principle was founded on the mind of an infant, we are seeing more evidence that this is a distinguishable trait of today’s society as a whole.  To put it in a nutshell…the whole “patience is a virtue” thing has gone out the window!

So while we put some of our biggest efforts into choosing a wedding photographer; spending weeks or even months finding the perfect person to capture all of the significant, most cherished moments of our day…we can all agree, waiting weeks to see these images is downright excruciating.  In walks Betsy the queen of “instant gratification” and thank goodness for her, because wedding planners are just as anxious for these images as the couple themselves. 

Betsy, the owner of Social Spark, is a content creator that focuses on weddings and other major events.  To put it in her words she is as much a part of your wedding dream team as she is your “social media best friend”.  We got the opportunity to chat with Betsy about her awesome company, and we think you will agree with us when we say, a wedding content creator is going to be on everyone’s “must have” list in no time.  Read on to get to know a little bit about one of our favorite content creators in the DC/Charlottesville area, Social Spark by Betsy.

What do you want couples to know about you?

I would like couples to know that I am a passionate person for all things content. I have been a travel content creator for a few years, and I have absolutely loved it. I honestly love capturing the essence of people and places. This is why transitioning into the wedding industry was an easy decision for me. Being able to capture every moment of someone’s special day is an amazing feeling. I truly enjoy showcasing the love and the emotion that this one day brings in the purest form. This is truly a dream job for me.

Can you speak to why you think couples are beginning to value the idea of a content creator at their wedding?

We spend more time with our phones than with any other item. It is not a surprise that more couples want to have their videos and photos on their phones within 24 hours of their special day. It is important to emphasize that most of our couples are not social media gurus. Our content is not all for social media; in fact, most couples are not influencers or social media experts—many just want the content to relive for themselves and share with loved ones. They do not want to assign a friend or family member to capture this content because they want everyone to enjoy the day with them. They prefer to have a professional capture everything for them in the background.

What exactly does a content creator provide the couple with?

As content creators, we are hired with the hope of documenting the realistic, raw and unfiltered moments using our iPhone. We deliver our raw content within 24 hours to provide instant memories. We use Dropbox where you can download more than 500-1000 videos and photos (depending on the package selected). In addition, we edit content for social media such as Tik Toks/reels of the highlights of the day. These are a fun way to share and remember your special day.

How do you differ from a wedding photographer or videographer?

We are very different from photographers and videographers. They both use professional equipment, which they must edit for a few weeks to deliver amazing images. We use our iPhone because it allows us to turn our content within hours in an optimized format. A videographer will capture their video horizontally and we capture it in a vertical form optimized for social media and smartphones. Our content is specifically created to be seen and used on a phone. As content creators, our goal is to capture content behind the scenes and become the photographers and videographer’s shadow. This way we capture a unique and different angle on your wedding day.

What types of moments do you capture to make up the content you provide to couples?

It really depends on what the couple wants us to capture. We send a questionnaire a week before the wedding day and set up a call to understand the couple’s vision of their day. Some couples want us to capture them getting ready because they want to have that moment with their friends. Other couples want us to capture the whole reception as they might have surprises throughout the night, and they don’t want to miss anything from that day. However, most couples give us creative freedom to capture those special organic moments. Since the most unique moments are the organic moments where the couple and family members do not realize they are being filmed.
